Certainly more accommodating towards the 21+ crowd, Coachella is basically a huge party where adults get to be kids again. 2012 marked my fourth time going to the festival and it has been interesting to see how it has changed over the years. While the novelty is starting to ware off, there will always be something magical about this desert oasis.
I remember in 2008 you could still buy tickets at the gate and it seemed significantly less crowded; but air conditioned bathrooms for the general public are a major perk associated with the recent hype.
Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre brought me back to middle school and Justice will always remind me of my senior year of college, but aside from the headliners were a large group of lesser known, even more incredible musicians. I’ll be posting some of my favorites in the coming weeks.

I seem to be on a Coachella kick this week, finding tons of old pictures from previous years. This is another one of my favorites.

Even though Coachella has commercialized indie music and festival culture (i.e. 2011), it is still one of my favorites. I am thrilled with the lineup revealed today. Nicely done, Goldenvoice. So excited for April!

The heavens were on San Franciscans side this past weekend at Outside Lands Music festival in Golden Gate Park. Music fans were met with sweet beats, sunshine, and some of the best food in the Bay for the annual, 3 day extravaganza. The mere 4 photos I managed to capture are testament to the amount of fun I had-and this comes from a picture junkie.
One of my favorite things about festivals is the discoveries made while roaming the grounds. Two bands that were not on my ‘dying to see live’ list are now there after this weekend. We weren’t close enough to catch a glimpse of the Australian singer, but it’s amazing what you hear when you cannot see. Sitting on the grass, eyes shut toward the sun, I was able to experience her soothing voice in an entirely new way. SIA simply amazed me.
On another note, I have always been drawn to the electric, mood enhancing jams produced by Swedish talents (Miike Snow and Lykke Li to name a few), but never gave much thought to Little Dragon. The show was a crowd pleaser, at the least. Granted, they had the audience riding out their last-day-of-the-festival high, but Little Dragon was definitely a joyous experience.
I cannot wait to hear next year’s lineup.
